2(56).1 Meaning of India

Section 2(56) “India” includes: 1. Territory of India As referred to in Article 1 of the Constitution of India, i.e.: - The States - Union Territories - Any territory that may be acquired 2. Territorial Waters Waters extending up to 12 nautical miles from the baseline of the coast. Seabed and Sub-soil underlying such waters 4. Continental Shelf The seabed and subsoil beyond territorial waters over which India has sovereign rights for exploration and exploitation of natural resources. 5. Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) Area up to 200 nautical miles from the baseline, where India has rights to exploit marine resources. 6. Any other Maritime Zones as defined under the Territorial Waters, Continental Shelf, Exclusive Economic Zone and other Maritime Zones Act, 1976. 7. Airspace above its territory and territorial waters. |
